"When I moved to Brisbane, I came as a wreck physically and emotionally, albeit an amateur sportsman and someone who had represented Australia at 2 World Championships, but I let it slip for a few years. I was 30, overweight at 116kg (bodyfat around 32-34), working too much and eating too much of the wrongs things to give my body any chance at improvement. Various elements in my world changed, and I sought to improve myself both emotionally and physically. I did some research, checked out a few gyms and “health clubs” only to find that they catered for the 95 percent of people who are happy to run on a treadmill for 30 minutes while having a chat. Not my style. I found Iron Underground by chance, called up Paul and booked in for my first free trial session. He immediately came across as knowing his profession, identifying my weak points from years of inactivity and sporting injuries, and developed a plan for achieving my goals on the spot – I wanted to be leaner for summer, to not look out of place in a singlet for the first time in my life. 3 months later, and training with Paul 2-3 times a week, following a nutrition program specifically designed for me and my workout intensity, I was down to 220 bodyfat. Perfect, I thought. My goal was reached, I had dropped to 92 kg (a loss of 22kg of fat) and felt incredible. My physical weaknesses were nearly all fixed through a thorough regimen of work followed by more work. Little did I know, the bug had already bitten. I was becoming an addict and I asked Paul what I could do to drop down to about 150odyfat while increasing strength in the main lifts. I wanted to bench my bodyweight, deadlift 1.5 times my bodyweight and squat my bodyweight. In the following 6 months to July 2012 I have reached 3 out of 4, dropping to 16-17 bodyfat, putting on 8kg of muscle (up to 100kg) with a shoulder injury the only problem left for my benchpress goal to be met. In fact, my deadlift and squat have increased so much that I have already set another set of goals for them. By the time this Christmas comes around, I hope to be able to see an abdominal muscle for the first time ever. Can’t wait! We lift hard, and we lift smart. Every week for the last 9 months I have recorded a new personal best in at least one movement. EVERY WEEK. That, to me, is the sign of great training from a top trainer. Paul has taught me the building blocks of the big 4 power lifts, various elements of bodybuilding (as required for my own vanity), nutrition and supplementation, biomechanics and started me on a path of goal crushing personal development. My mind is clear, my body is clean and my life is unalterably changed. I don’t dread the gym, I look forward to it. I didn’t think I would, but I do. My motivation before every session is knowing that I will see an improvement in my body shape, physical strength and mental grit after every session, and believing that my goals are not only attainable, but a stepping stone to the next set of goals. Without a quality facility like Iron Underground, and a quality trainer like Paul, these results would be totally unattainable. Thanks mate. Aaron"
